— Some say the world will end in fire [Event Open]
It just felt so hot. Opening his eyes he was not greeted with the sight of the hut he had begun to call home but instead with the familiar flickers of orange dancing at the edge of his vision. Crackling filled his ears as the heat grew closer. Lashing out an arm he sent the flames back, trying to create some space between himself and the fire licking at the walls. Just where was he? Zuko had only just come to terms with what Toph had told him and now this? Golden eyes scanned the room looking for familiar details. Wait. Was this Uncle’s tea shop? The Earth Kingdom? Pushing his way through the flames, parting them as he went he made it to the door. Pushing it open he expected salvation, the cool rush of air, but instead his vision was flooded with more of the same. The city was burning. The streets were filled with chaos, a panicked crowd, but Zuko managed to grab hold of a passerby’s arm. Fear stared back at him as their gazes met.
“What’s happening?!” He spat out, hoping the other was coherent enough to answer him. The other’s eyes glanced over his shoulder, widening as they took in the sight behind him. “Ozai…” He muttered before pulling away, running into the distance. Zuko’s arms fell to his sides, shock across his face. Father? This couldn’t be. Toph had told him… but as his amber eyes glanced over the houses he saw it was the truth. Fire nation troops were everywhere and there was nothing left to do but run. — One too many. [Itachi & Zuko]
Walking into the city Zuko felt much more at ease, yes it was crowded here and that would normally have meant there were that many more chances for someone to spot him - to see him for who he really was - but now he knew where he was he realised he didn’t have to worry about that here. Now all he had to do was find some food. It had been a long day, in truth Zuko wanted nothing more than to find a way home but it had been made clear that was near impossible, people left every now and again but no one knew how or even if they made it back home. For now he would settle for getting something to eat and going back to his, ugh, hut. Amber eyes darted around the various selection of food shops and stalls, all carrying strange and unfamiliar products. Well, it seemed he wasn’t about to find any ‘home comforts’ here. As rain flecked across the paving stones, dripping down his raven locks he decided to duck into the nearest store. If he couldn’t find anything he recognised he might as well go for the closest option. However, it seemed it wouldn’t be quite that easy. As he got the counter he was annoyed to find his money was no good here and of course his annoyed utterances of ‘don’t you know who I am’ did nothing to help win her over. No, she didn’t know who he was and being ‘Prince of the Fire Nation’ meant nothing here. Turning away, a scowl on his face he saw one of the other customers stepping towards the door. “Hey wait!” He cried, quickly following after him - embarrassment flooding over him at actually having to ask for food. From a stranger no less.

Surprise flashed across his face as the other took hold of his arm, affection still wasn’t exactly something he was used to. Before he’d decided to join up with Aang and the others the only one who’d ever shown him any was Mai and, well, she wasn’t exactly the most caring person even at the best of times – not that he’s ever really minded but it was nice knowing someone cared about him. Gingerly he returned the half hug, gently draping an arm around her shoulder for a moment before returning, rather awkwardly to his previous stance. “Yeah, it’s good to see you too Toph. I was starting to worry I wasn’t going to find anyone I knew here.” He frowned slightly at that thought, though he’d deny it if anyone asked he would have hated to end up alone. Again. Looking down at her a small smile lifted his lips, despite the fact the other wouldn’t see it - Zuko knew his happiness would be evident in his voice. “I’m sorry you had to be here alone.” He listened intently as she explained it to him, his smile slipping as she did so. A different dimension? Well how would he get back there? He had a job to do, they all did, he knew that. Yes, his might not have been as vital as Aang’s but Azula still needed to be stopped. The memory of his sister’s crazed face flashed before him, the memory of her lightening striking him down the last one he had before awakening here, did that mean she had won? He squeezed his eyes shut, it had been his job to stop her, how could he have failed?
Zuko flinched. Saved from inevitable destruction? What did that mean? He knew the power granted by Sozin’s comet was enough to cause irreversible destruction but Aang had to stop it. He was the Avatar, it was his destiny. His fists clenched at his sides, teeth gritted, as his gaze drifted to the ground. He could have done better, he knew he could. He worked hard to calm the rage building inside him, he didn’t need rage for power. He sighed before glancing back to the girl before him, his tone much graver when he spoke next. “Toph, how long have you been here?” He paused. “Do- do you know what happened? Did we… lose?” (Source: zukhonor) — rockysifu started following you
Zuko had beenhere for little more than a few hours and he had yet to find anyone who could tell him just where ‘here’ was. Though he wasn’t exactly eager to go around asking for help, he shouldn’t even need help to find his way around here. However, it was starting to get cold and his crimson robes weren’t exactly helping against the chill the wind was sending through him. His steps quickened as he walked down the near empty streets, mouth twisted into a scowl. He didn’t have time for this, there was a war going on and he needed to be there.
The sound of footsteps behind him caught his attention, spinning round amber eyes met with wide clouded ones framed by jet black bangs. “Toph,” he called, hurrying towards the small figure. “What are you doing here? Where are we?” — Exploring Arcadios @Deidei
Amber eyes flew open, blinking rapidly as he tried to focus. Where were the blue flashes of flames? The heat? But all he saw was the clear blue canvas of sky, felt the cool wind against his skin. Where am I? How long have I been out?! Pushing himself to his feet bright flames licked against his hands, now clenched into fists, as he scanned his surroundings. One thing was for sure, he was no longer in the fire nation. The waterfall, the source of the only noise in the large clearing, behind him was unlike anything he would have seen in his homeland. Was Azula playing another one of her sick jokes? Has she just left him here? His hands tightened, fire flaring around them, before he let the flames go out. Wherever he was he was alone and what he needed now was to find someone who knew where the hell this was and how he could get back to where he was needed. A city was visible in the distance, though it was one unlike any he’d ever seen, and he figured if he started now he could make it there before sunset. As he set of towards it a shadow fell over him, glancing up he saw… a bird? Well whatever it was it was approaching fast and it was big. It landed a little way away next to the vast lake and a figure jumped off from it’s back. Perhaps this was the chosen form of transport around here, Zuko had to admit it seemed a lot faster than Aang’s sky bison.
Eyes narrowed slightly as he eyed the other. Their clothes were ones he couldn’t associate with any of the four nations and he knew there would be a lot of people who wouldn’t be to pleased to see him. “Who are you?” His voice was brash as always but right now he had a lot more important things to worry about than being friendly. |
